Lower Extremity Superficial Venous Hands-On Master Class in Paradise

Naples, FL

Deep and Superficial Venous Ultrasound

This event is being rescheduled

14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)

Our highly interactive 2-day hands-on venous ultrasound imaging training program is specially designed for physicians and sonographers who want to perfect their clinical expertise in performing and interpreting duplex ultrasound exams for lower extremity venous and pelvic pathology. This program covers imaging techniques for identifying and mapping deep vein thrombosis, post thrombotic syndrome, superficial variants, and reflux. Discussions and demonstrations will also address pelvic vein disorders; iliac vein obstruction, renal vein compression, and ovarian reflux Participants will rotate through our state-of-the-art endovascular suite, learning the newest best practices for lower extremity ultrasound imaging.

To keep this course as true-to-life as possible, we will focus on teaching you how to master duplex mapping through hands-on ultrasound exams on patients, under the direct supervision of our expert faculty. Faculty will discuss anatomy, etiology, and pathophysiology of lower extremity and pelvic vein disorders, and present a step-by-step approach to optimizing the ultrasound exam, emphasizing protocols, diagnostic criteria, and rendering a final report. This course is intended to deliver hands-on training in an intimate setting limited to 12 participants.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review normal and abnormal venous hemodynamics
  • Describe the epidemiology, presentation and morbidity of venous disease
  • Recognize the superficial and deep venous ultrasound anatomy and distinguish the surrounding tissues
  • Differentiate superficial venous reflux variants and pathology
  • Determine acute vein thrombosis, fibrotic intraluminal changes, and reflux
  • Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of iliac vein obstruction, renal vein compression, ovarian vein reflux, and pelvic varicosities
  • Master the performance and interpretation the iliocaval and pelvic exam in order to make an accurate diagnosis
  • Discuss how to best optimize the controls of the ultrasound system to perfect the image quality
  • Understand how to properly optimize the images for the iliocaval and abdominal-pelvic duplex examination
  • Learn the most up to date post-stenting surveillance regimen
